Tactics and Strategies for Playing in Poker MTTs

Being able to win in Poker MTTs and always making it in the money requires a lot of strategic planning on the part of the player. It is not just about luck; it actually boils down to the preparedness of a player.

Among the key Poker MTT strategies that all players must seek to develop is the table image. If you are perceived as a tight one in the early stages, you will be able to play a lot more hands later on. Why? Because a rock, which is how you competed early on, will only bet, let alone raise, when he has a good hand.

If you are in the middle stages of the tournament, your table image as a rock will help your Poker MTT strategy of trying to accumulate a large stack. If you are seen as a rock, you can then play more marginal hands and get called.

Another important element that will come into play when you are preparing a Poker MTT strategy are the blinds. When you have the big stack, do not let anyone, especially the short stacks, get a chance to see the flop cheaply. The strategy here is simple; you either raise or stay out of the hand.

The short stack should be your target. If they are going to try and double, make sure that they first pay the price for seeing the flop. Conversely, if you are the short stacked one, the number one rule you should remember is that you should never allow it to reach the point wherein even doubling will not be enough to save you from being blinded out.

If you are in last place in your table, you should make it a point to be more aggressive. It is important that you do this, in order to avoid falling behind. While you may not want to be too aggressive in the early stage, you cannot afford to fall behind too much.

When you play in a Poker MTT, you will have to deliberate on a lot of matters, and even during the game you will have to constantly think on your feet. For someone who only watches the game on TV, it does not seem much.

However, to win in the tournament, you must be prepared to spend some time developing your strategies. In return you will be able to play a more solid and refined Poker game.
